Does the world really need another release of this recording? You are not alone in asking this question. Fabio Camorani from AudioNautes also had to ask himself the question, since there are currently almost 30 versions in digital and analog formats on the market. Sieveking Sound alone already had five different versions of this title (Winston Ma: LP, XRCD, UHD, K2HD and SACD) in its product portfolio. So why this UHQCD from Italy? Quite simply because it sounds even better! Fabio Camorani has already reissued several albums by the Swedish label Proprius as UHQCD and on vinyl. The high quality of his reissues led Proprius to grant him access to the original tapes of "Jazz At The Pawnshop".

When the AudioNautes boss listened to the tapes for the first time, he was sure that none of the versions released so far reflected the full musicality of the recording. Camorani came to the conclusion that the sound engineers had emphasized different sound parameters during the remastering process, but had lost sight of the balance. He made this balance the focus of his work. The result is a harmonious version with no compression and a wide dynamic range: the recording from December 6 and 7, 1976, with Arne Domnérus (saxophone, clarinet), Bengt Hallberg ( piano), Georg Riedel (bass), Lars Erstrand (vibraphone) and Egil Johansen (drums) and recorded by Gert Palmcrantz at the Jazzpuben Stampen in Stockholm, is given a whole new dimension by Camorani's remastering.

Those who missed out on the first, strictly limited edition of this UHQCD now have another chance to get hold of this recording, which is highly esteemed among audiophiles! The CD comes in a hardcover, the booklet contains English texts by Fabio Camorani, Gert Palmcrantz, Stefan Nävermyr and Jürgen Schildt.

UHQCD stands for Ultimate High Quality Compact Disc and is a joint development of the Japanese CD replication company Memory-Tech and the Audio Quality CD Company from Hong Kong. Unlike conventional CDs, UHQCDs are not pressed from polycarbonate, but cast from a photopolymer and cured with UV light. Another layer of high-purity polycarbonate is applied to the softer photopolymer for scratch protection. The combination results in significantly reduced reflection of laser light inside the CD and an unmatched precise edge transition between pits and lands of the CD. UHQCDs are 100% compatible with standard CD players. Musically, the result is a sound image strongly reminiscent of analog master tapes.
