Maybe it's because he\'s been to the edge so many times and has always returned in good enough shape to tell us about it......Maybe it's the raw emotion he displays whilst playing, eyes closed, sinking trance - like into a place where he can access the true tone of the song.....Maybe it's the way that he blends his influences seamlessly in a true pan-roots fusion - crossing boundaries at whim, mixing it up with folkies, jazzers, rappers, mountain pickers and cold eyed hard delta groovesters, yet always retaining his own unique style, imprinting everything he does with his particular vision...Maybe it's his voice, spookily soulful, ranging from rumbling baritone to keen falsetto; or his guitar playing, stroked, strummed, slapped, picked and whipped into a landscape of tones, textures, arpeggios and melodies; or perhaps it's because, quite simply, he is the real deal.
