Previously published as Dark Temptation by D. K. Morgenstern, this is a second edition. Alanis Elliot lives a regular adolescence in Salisbury with her father, Johnny, an ex-priest of a quite rigid and sometimes even ridiculous ways. The arrival of a mysterious warning letter completely destabilizes Johnny, who is looking for a way to escape from the city. However, Alanis is too busy in her plan to escape from the house to attend the Halloween night parties to notice that something sinister threatens them. After being rescued from the attack of a group of bloody vampires, Alanis manages to return home to discover that her father has disappeared. Since then she takes refuge in Salisbury Cathedral with the Redentto, a group of Creatures of the Night looking for redemption, and Kaliel, an irritating and arrogant boy of angelic appearance who she has the feeling of having known before. The clues indicate that her father was kidnapped by the sadistic members of a secret order derived from the Holy Inquisition. Alanis then begins a race to find her father which will lead her to unravel the dark secrets of her own past and a love that directly challenges the Heaven...
