The St. Antler's Day Murder
Joe Jenney
The Pineville High School football coach doesn't show up at school the day of the last and most important football game of the season. The sheriff starts a search and his body is found in the National Forest where he went hunting on the opening day of deer season. It looks like he was hit by a stray bullet from another hunter. The only evidence found is a bullet from a popular deer hunting rifle. The sheriff concludes there is no way to find who fired the shot that killed the coach. He concludes it's an accident and doesn't plan to investigate. Then an inflammatory article in the Detroit Free Press suggests the coach was murdered. This news causes uproar in Pineville and the sheriff is forced to investigate. His investigation leads nowhere. Pamela Lafave has information bearing on the case but has promised not to tell anyone. She gets advice from her priest and finds a path that leads to solving the case.
