Walt was also more than just a fan of Abraham Lincoln, two of his most important poems, "Oh Captain, My Captain" and "When Lilacs Last Bloomed" were written as eulogies for this martyred hero. AND Lincoln was a fan of Whitman, often reading Whitman's "Leaves of Grass", to his clients at his law office in Springfield, Illinois. One of Whitman's best friends was in Ford's Theatre the night of Lincoln's assassination.
