The Dragon's Breath
George Donald
One dark and wet night in Glasgow city centre, the unprovoked assault upon Alan Chalmers leaves him fighting for his life.
Several weeks later, the sluggish police investigation that follows the assault causes Chalmers's wife, Sheila, to appeal for assistance from retired Detective Chief Inspector, Angus Maitland, who is initially appalled at the lack of inquiry made by the investigating officer.
When Maitland initiates his own investigation, he soon realises that the assault on Chalmers is not as the police believe, a random street robbery, but something more sinister.
As Maitland digs further into the cause of the crime, he quickly realises that Chalmers was himself investigating the disappearance of a number of young women throughout the city, young women who Maitland discovers, that no one would miss.
