Adoption of Chemical Fertilizers in Maize Cropping System in Myanmar: Profitability Between Chemical Fertilizer Adopters and Non Adopters Under Upland Condition
Benchaphun Ekasingh
The factors affecting the adoption of chemical fertilizers in maize cropping system are not concerned by technologically but these are affected by institutionally and also influenced by the infrastructure. Even if they were chemical fertilizer adopters, their maize yields were found to be low because of extremely drought under rain-fed condition. As a result of comparatively higher cost of production, lower yield and price, surveyed households in remote area gained lower profit compared to the households in the closer region. This book based on the research study conducted in Myanmar provides an idea on what to do, how to improve their knowledge and how to provide credit for the farmers who were gained less profit. It supplies invaluable information on how commercial production of maize can be developed by adoption of chemical fertilizer. This book gives some recommendations included provision of low-cost credit, improved extension and integrated nutrient management. Finally, it will be especially useful to agricultural extension workers, researchers, policy makers and then public sectors.
