Multiple Intelligences & Multimodality Methods on Student Performance: Learning Styles, Methods, Performance
Christinah Dlamini
Lack of knowledge and concern for students? individual learning styles, the intricacy of Shakespearean plays enhanced by ineffective instructional methods contributed significantly to the poor performance of ?O? level literature students especially in Shakespearean plays. It has been discovered that most teachers and students shun teaching and learning these plays because of: the language of Shakespeare which is archaic, the plots which are complicated, lack of stage directions and the use of blank verse. In the bid to unravel the myths and propose ways that can possibly erase the negative attitudes of both the teachers and the students, a study of Howard Gardner?s theory of multiple intelligences together with multimodality approaches was taken. The study is expected to help not only the literature students but to equip educators with better instrument to measure the students? intelligences which should help both the student and the teacher in selecting subjects of specialization both at 'O' and 'A' levels.
