A party of young friends rent a bungalow near the scene of the killing of Rudolph Loucks, whose murderer had never been found. Things start getting weird when Loucks' ghost makes an appearance, blood appears on the walls and stairs of the bungalow, and noises assail the new occupants. Frank Lethridge, whose pistol had been used to kill Loucks, visits the bungalow and starts spending time with one of the girls. There are other visitors, each of whom seems to know more about the murder than they're telling. Are the group of friends dealing with a ghost, or a murderer - or both? 'What Was That?' was first serialized in Argosy-All-Story Weekly in 1920. Katharine Haviland Taylor (1891-1941) was an American writer and illustrator. She wrote more than twenty books of light fiction, and several of her works were adapted as movies.
