Words Out of Asylum 1

Words out of Asylum 1 is the first in a series of new prose and poetry explorations by Eon West. The works herein discuss feelings of otherness. By looking out while looking in we find transcendence and new ways of viewing our worlds. We cannot be bystanders to our own reality, and Words out of Asylum 1 forces the reader to participate in the dimensions around us. Combining prose and poetry, this first volume is an introduction to a lyrical style that is both straightforward and complex. The stories and thoughts here are meant to transport and illuminate. While the word asylum means safe space, it has historically been used to describe those foreboding places cultures use to lock away those that are to different, to eccentric, to fit into the narrow parameters of "normal." The mentally ill were once thought to be possessed by demons, and asylums were managed by religious authority. The visions of saints and martyrs were denied in their own times, only recognized as revelation by those who came after. Their words out of asylum were prophetic visions.
