After eighteen successful years touring with the popular rock group Vulture, and the following fifteen years vegetating at his palatial Hollywood estate, a restless Taylor Ross returns to the Ohio hometown he fled back in 1967. Having already made the impression of being a loose-mouthed, reckless musician to the entire community, Taylor becomes embroiled in a controversy that finds him appointed the acting director of a failing high school marching band. A Different Drummer tells the dramatic tale of Taylor's quest to find fulfillment at the end of a prosperous but meaningless life, and how a single bond of love helps him strive towards his goals.
