Abraham's Conceits
Peter Shaw
"James Harvey Wilbur was a nineteenth century renegade missionary and agent on the Yakima reservation in eastern Washington. On behalf of the Yakima, he met in the White House with Presidents Lincoln and Grant, reportedly getting drunk with the latter.
He helped Yakima converts assimilate to the ascending culture through market agriculture, in an unsanctioned program he financed by diverting government funds.
His longstanding asset reallocation eventually discovered, he was cast into the wilderness and subsequently found, considerably worse for wear, by unsurrendered Nez Perce warriors. The transformation that occurred in this mostly true story is set in accurate history.
