On December 31st 1999, Zein comes home for the holidays. Little does he know of what awaits him. As Cairo heads for its last year of the 20th century, he unknowingly heads for the last days of the life he has known. Ghost Factory dares to lift the veil hiding the lives of the privileged, the lost and the nihilistic youth. Ignored by their parents and numbed by the drugs, Zein and his group go from night to night ignoring the emerging cracks in their hollow reality and the impending changes to their empty lives. From the nostalgic flashbacks to the shocking revelations, Zein will be our eyes on Cairo. The reader is taken on a riveting yet disturbing ride through Cairo, from the high rises of Zamalek and the villas of Maadi, to the bars and clubs of Mohandeseen and Dokki.
