Rising Tide
Melvin Weaver
The story is essentially Rod Sterlings and is told mainly from his point of view. It sees him caught up in a web of historical events that first occurs during World War II, when he is a lad of thirteen, and continues as he becomes involved in Fidel Castros struggle for power in Cuba. The story is also of Conchita Quesada, the headstrong, young and winsome black-eyed Latin beauty. She sets a fire in Rods blood that would not be quenched. Their life together is filled with violence, danger, romance, adventure, mystery, and political intrigue. The book is appealing, in part, because it reads like the current events of the era in which the novel takes place. Rising Tide will leave the reader acutely aware of the menace that communism presented in the Caribbean Basin and Central America.
