Women and Work: A Psychological Perspective
Barbara A. Gutek
The first volume of Women and Work examines differences among women -- as well as differences between men and women -- related to nationality, ethnicity, social class, and sexual preference. Volume One contains an analysis of earnings differentials. It is an exciting discussion illustrating different explanations for this subject. It concludes that despite the fact that women are seen to be making inroads into various professions (such as business, medicine, and the military), many remain in traditionally 'female', low-paying jobs. Research reveals that when women are employed in jobs traditionally associated with men, they usually receive less pay than their male counterparts.
