Two old journals from the past are about to surface in two unrelated parts of the country. Although they know nothing about them, their association with the journals puts the women that inherit them in danger from the very men that once swore to love them. One Texas rancher, known to hate all women, is all that stands between these two women and the men that are willing to kill anyone that gets between them and two fortunes mentioned in the journals. Zak is a giant of a man with a grumpy attitude to match his size. Ciji, a tiny city girl on the run from a bad relationship, inherited the property Zak planned to add to his spread. Ciji has no use for men and plans to start a new life in a male free environment. That is, no males of any species allowed on her ranch. No men, no stallions, no bulls, no roosters. Sure that she will give up and sell out, Zak "hires on" just to help her get the ranch up and running. Now he can't stay away, he is afraid of what she will do next. When she isn't starting fires, blowing up spiders, and meddling in the love lives of his neighbors she is slowly driving Zak to distraction. And, as much as he claims otherwise, he is loving every minute of it. Sure, he still wants the land but when he learns Ciji's life is in danger because of a journal left to her by her father he isn't about to let anyone get near enough to hurt the little nut. As if Ciji isn't enough trouble, Zak learns his estranged sister has disappeared and it has something to do with an old journal that once belonged to their uncle. Zak, the woman hater with a target now on his own back, will do whatever it takes to unravel the mysteries of the two journals as he protects the lives of the two women he has inherited.
