Towards the end of The Second World War, rapid advances in hardware have given the world a significant new technology of information processing with widespread applicability. Computers are coming into use in such fields as teaching, medical diagnosis, weather forecasting and today, business organizations have found an important and necessary ally in information technology, as most business organizations can not do without it, including small and medium sized businesses. The study examined the strategic use of information technology on small and medium scale enterprises and how it affects development and growth in the organization. The objectives of this study includes to find out the significance of information technology in small and medium scale organization and to determine the extent to which information technology affects performance in a small and medium scale organization. The conclusion of the study is based on both the theoretical and the empirical findings which agree with the notion that the strategic use of IT is essential for a small and medium scale organization to remain relevant in the business scene of our computer and electronics driven age.
