Christian Ballingall (1756-1834) and George Buist (1750-1797)

Christian Ballingall was the seventh child of George Ballingall (1714-1793), the tenant farmer of Rameldry, Kettle Parish and Christian Goodsir and was born and raised at Rameldry. She would marry George Buist (1750-1797) of Orkie and they would have eight children who were all born and raised there. Buist was not only a tenant farmer and proprietor but also established a bleachfield at Kettle Bleachfield. He was a supporter of abolishing church patronage in Scotland as evidence of his letter of Thursday, 18 November 1781. Christian and George Buist were only married for 13 years when in January of 1797 he died at the age of 46. Shortly after his death in 1797-99 Christian Buist left Orkie with her youngest children namely: Thomas, Margaret, Robert and James Buist and eventually relocated to Kirktonbarns in Forgan Parish where she continued to raise the younger children. Christian Buist would live the rest of her life at Kirktonbarns. This then is the narrative of the life and times of Christian (Ballingall) and George Buist.
