Alzheimer's disease is a fatal brain disorder that causes permanent memory loss. Currently, the disease it is estimated to affect more than 50 million people worldwide. Unfortunately, people diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease will lose their ability to remember people, places, events and other important things. This disease can cause major changes in the roles and responsibilities of many individuals within the family. Children that witness their loved ones and other older adults suffering from Alzheimer's disease are often left feeling confused, saddened, and sheltered from the realities of the disorder. While doctors and scientists all around the world continue to work extremely hard to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease, efforts are also being placed on educating parents, children, and caregivers about the illness. This children's book is about Mr. Gonzalez, a retired Latino music teacher. For more than 30 years he has taught band lessons. Unfortunately, he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and unable to teach music anymore. However, his passion for music and making people smile will always be cherished.
