Hugo, the Loveable, Huggable Orangutan is a cute story about an orangutan who lives in a zoo and is a comfort to the zookeeper and all the other animals because of his loveable hugs. When a child named Tommy visits the zoo and gives Hugo his peanut butter sandwich, Hugo decides he must have more and follows Tommy home. Tommy takes Hugo to school with him, and soon all the children discover that Hugo makes their troubles disappear with his loveable hugs. When the zookeeper appears on television with a tearful plea for Hugo's return, Tommy and all his classmates realize what they must do: bring Hugo back home.
